The Aberdares
ABERDARE COUNTRY CLUB ***
Just two hour's drive from Nairobi, the country club is nestled into the
slopes of Mweiga Hill. All of the fifty or so rooms are comfortably
furnished with private bathrooms and spectacular views of the plains below,
Aberdare Mountains to the west and Mount Kenya to the east. Many visitors
have lunch here, before transferring to the Ark. However, the Club is a
delightful place to spend a night. The club also offers a 9 hole golf
course, where you will mingle with resident antelope and baboon, a 1,300
acre wildlife sanctuary, trout fishing and gorgeous gardens, swimming pool,
horseback riding and tennis court.
OUTSPAN GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB ***
Gracious, solid and comfortable, the club has amazing views of Mount Kenya,
beautifully manicured gardens and lawns, and forty five delightful rooms
that still retain the qualities of an historical property. With lots of
private land around the club, it's a great location for conferences,
training sessions and numerous activities, including walks and fishing.
With excellent restaurants, bars, taverns, a Kikuyu homestead and Lord
Baden Powell's museum to look at, the club is certainly worth a visit.
TREETOPS ***
Treetops is Kenya's original tree lodge, legendary for its historical royal
connection and for the animals it attracts to the waterhole, including
rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, bushbuck, waterbuck and many other species.
Treetops is around a ten mile drive from the Outspan, where guest generally
visit first. The lodge rises dramatically out of the ground on stilts and
overlooks a water hole and salt lick. It has four decks and a rooftop
viewing platform. Solely dedicated to game viewing, the accommodation is
compact and cosy, and only has fifty rooms with shared bathroom facilities.
Note that it gets chilly here during the winter months. Dinner is served at
refectory tables with bench seating which is 'intimate'.
THE ARK ***
Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, this unique game lodge
overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, which attracts a host of
wildlife, including elephant, rhino, leopard, bushbuck and occasionally an
elusive bongo or giant forest hog. Resembling, and named after Noah's Ark,
the Ark comprises of three decks from which numerous balconies and lounges
provide superb vantage points for game viewing. A ground level bunker
provides excellent photographic opportunities. Fifty nine simple yet
comfortable en suite cabins are fitted with buzzers to announce the arrival
of one of the 'big five'… Before embarking on the half hour drive to The
Ark, lunch is often served at the charming Aberdare Country Club.
Amboseli
PORINI CAMP ****
Porini Camp is located in the Selenkay Conservation Area, a 15,000-acre
private game reserve within a vast tract of land owned by the Kisonko clan
of the Maasai people and located near the northern boundary of Amboseli
National Park. Porini Camp has six spacious tents, sited among shady Acacia
Tortilis trees. The camp is small and exclusive, accommodating a maximum of
12 guests. It is set up along the lines of the traditional hunting safari
bush camp, so there are no permanent structures like bar or restaurant or
swimming pool.
The camp is staffed by members of the local Maasai community apart from the
management couple who act as your hosts throughout your stay. Apart from
big game like elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe and zebra, there
are several less common species such as caracal, African wild cat, civet,
gerenuk, lesser kudu and striped hyena.
TORTILIS CAMP AMBOSELI ****
Tortilis lies on the edge of Amboseli and gazes out onto the snow capped
peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Each of the seventeen tents are spacious and
well designed with generous stone verandas with comfy wicker chairs.
Tortilis offers fascinating nature walks guided by local Masai, who are
happy to pass on their traditions and medicinal lore, and point out which
plants they use and which they avoid. Game drives are also available. The
food here is deliciously Italian and service excellent. Tortilis is
certainly known for its sundowner spots.
OL KANJAU CAMP. ****
Ol Kanjau Camp is located in Amboseli National Park. The "Camp of the
Elephants", is a traditional style tented camp just three kilometres east
of Amboseli National Park. The accommodation is tented and exclusive to
groups of 12 guests or less.
AMBOSELI SERENA SAFARI LODGE ****
The lodge is set in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, beside a copse of
giant acacia trees and a gently flowing natural spring. It is one of
Kenya's finest safari lodges. All around the lodge roams big game that has
made East Africa legendary. The lodge has ninety six well decorated, very
comfortable rooms, excellent food and very friendly staff. It's a highly
recommend place to stay here.
AMBOSELI SOPA LODGE ***
At the foot of mighty Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest and most famous
mountain lies Amboseli Sopa Lodge - on the edge of Amboseli National Park -
within 200 acres of private land, a stone's throw from the place which in
the early 1930's, inspired Ernest Hemingway's unforgettable story "The
Snows of Kilimanjaro."

Chyulu Hills
OL DONYO WUAS NORTH CHYULU HILLS CONSERVANCY ****
Ol Donya Wuas means spotted hill in Maasai and Richard Bonhan built his
exlusive hideaway home here perched on a ridge in the foothills of the
northern Chyulus Hills. There are 5 thatched rondavel style cottages for
ten guests each artistically decorated with local furniture with its own
verandha and fireplace. Homely comfort provides the atmosphere to put up
your feet and enjoy a drink.
The setting is superb with wide open vistas. Part of a local community
project the local masai protect the lions and other predators on the 10,000
hectare group ranch.
Horse riding is available and horse safaris meeting fly camps each evening,
day and night game drives, walking safaris and bird shooting from July to
October.
CAMPI YA KANZI CHYULU HILLS NATIONAL PARK ****
A small luxury lodge with Italian influences, especially the food, that is
a masai owned community project to assist the local Kuku people. This is

On the shores of Lake Baringo, Lake Baringo Club nestles amongst palm

Lake Elementaita
LAKE ELEMENTAITA LODGE ***
Built in the early 1900's the lodge still retains much of the grace, charm
and features of the early colonial home: red brick building with shady
terraces, an internal courtyard, panelled walls, a sitting room with a
library and log fires. With thirty three rooms tucked away in the gardens,
they are all quite simple, though certainly comfortable enough for a few
nights stay. The property overlooks Lake Elementaita and is located in a
private estate, so offers a host of activities from walking trips to horse
riding. The lodge is well run and the staff very friendly.
Lake Naivasha
HIPPO POINT HOUSE, NAIVASHA *****
This magnificent 1933 mock Tudor house remains a relic of “happy valley”
set in a traditional English garden of scented roses and lush lawns.
It is situated at Hippo-Point a private estate & wildlife sanctuary.
Refurbished to the highest standards, the house is furnished with beautiful
antiques imported from the family's European ancestral homes.
Bedrooms have colourful Islamic influenced patterns on the pillows, which
were hand-appliquéd in Zanzibar by Arab artisans.

CHUI LODGE, NAIVASHA ****
Chui Lodge is located in the private Kongoni Ranch in Naivasha.
It has five artistically designed cottages with fireplaces and en-suite

The main lodge overlooks the waterhole and has two fireplaces, dining area

KIANGAZI HOUSE, NAIVASHA ****
Kiangazi House is a luxurious and spacious country home overlooking Lake
Naivasha Olaidien Bay.

LOLDIA HOUSE, NAIVASHA ****
A settler who came to Kenya by ox-wagon after the Boer War and is still
owned by the same family established Loldia Farm.
Nestling under the acacia and wild fig trees on the green western shores of
Lake Naivasha, the present Loldia House was constructed from stone quarried
on the farm.
The main archway frames a stunning view of the dormant volcano Mount
Longonot. At night hippos are grazing on the lawns of the house.
On the farm's 6,500 acres, guests may walk or ride through herds of cattle
and flock of farmed ostriches interspersed with impala, waterbuck and other
plains game.The farm is ideally situated to visit the flamingo lakes of
Nakuru, Elementaita and Bogoria.
MALEWA RIVER LODGE, GREAT RIFT VALLEY ****
Malewa River Lodge is a small and exclusive 12 bed “eco-friendly” lodge,
nestled in the shade of huge Acacia trees on the banks of the Malewa River
in a malaria free zone. The rustic design of the lodge is most unusual and

LAKE NAIVASHA SOPA LODGE ***
Situated on the southern shores of Lake Naivasha, the second largest of
only two freshwater lakes in Kenya's Great Rift Valley, Naivasha Sopa Lodge
is an impressive property with a dramatic backdrop.
The lake is the stage of some magnificent storms and was named nai Pasha
(Rough Water) by the Masai tribes.
An ornothologists's paradise, the lake is home to 400 species of wonderful
birdlife and an abundance of fish and water life.

buffalo, the elusive black faced colobus monkey and, in the lake itself to
many hippo that can be seen grazing within the lodge grounds. Activities
which can be arranged at Naivasha Sopa Lodge include horse-riding,

LAKE NAIVASHA COUNTRY CLUB **
The club rose to fame in the 1930's, as the staging post for Imperial
Airways' flying boat service from Durban to London. With heavily influenced
colonial architecture, the main buildings are solid and comfortable, with
around fifty rooms stretching out into the gardens - which are lush and
colourful. The rooms are quite simply furnished though quite spacious.
Being right on the shore line, most activities are focused on the lake,
with many boat trips heading to Cresent Island, where one can get out and
do gentle walks.
ELSAMERE HOUSE, NAIVASHA **
Elsamere House is located in Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley region of
Kenya. Accommodation is in the Elsamere House that faces Lake Naivasha. The
main attraction is the Museum of Joy Adamson, which includes a collection
of silverware, china plate, painting, memorabilia of the Joy's including
their famous movie "Born Free".
Lake Nakuru
LAKE NAKURU LODGE ***
Lake Nakuru Lodge is in the south eastern sector of the park, with
commanding views of the lake and flamingos, for which it is justly famous.
Lush gardens surround the lodge and cottages, which can accommodate up to
one hundred and twenty guests. There is a good daily programme of
activities, as this is a very well stocked park with everything from
Rothschild's giraffe to black and white rhino.
MBWEHA CAMP, NAKURU ***
Mbweha Camp is located in the privately owned Congreve Game Conservancy and
hidden in a grove of Euphorbia Cactus with over 300 species of birds. The
gate to Lake Nakuru National Park is only 15 minutes away.
The Conservancy is home to the majority of plains game such as
eland,warthogs, zebras, leopard,grants, gazelle,waterbuck, impala,
hyena,dik dik, buffalo,giraffe,advark,baboon and flamingo.
The Camp comprises of nine cottages made of local materials, thatch roofs
with natural lava rock walls and have a circular roomy sleeping area with
ensuite shower and a private verandah. All cottages are simply designed and
are comfortably and tastefully furnished and are all private and completely
separate.
The sunken bar and spacious lounge has an open fireplace, a pool table,
darts board, and looks out at eye level over a mown lawn area onto a small
water waterhole. The bush restaurant serves a choice of freshly prepared
meals as well as game meat in a separate thatched dinning room. Activities
on offer include nature walks, bike rides, hiking, day and night game
drives, bush dinners, and sundowners.
SAROVA LION HILL LODGE ***
Located high on the plateau overlooking Lake Nakuru, the views are
panoramic - shimmering pink shadows created by millions of flamingos,
pelicans and marabou storks. The landscape seems to always blossom here, as
natural foliage and a variety of wild flower blossom. There are only 65
rooms, all are air-conditioned and have modern conveniences. Views from the
room's verandas are also panoramic. The meals are excellent and served
inside the lodge, by the pool or under a forest of towering acacia trees.
The Rift Valley bar is always a great watering spot and is located on the
ground floor with great views of the lake.

Lake Victoria
MFANGANO ISLAND ****
Mfangano Island Camp is situated on the unspoilt island of Mfangano in Lake
Victoria, Africa’s largest lake and source of the Nile, and occupies an
entire secluded bay on the western shores of the island.
The camp is set under ancient fig trees. There are six rooms all having
stunning views of Lake Victoria and have en-suite facilities and private
verandas. In the center of Mfangano Island Camp is a cozy sitting and
dining room both open to the lake and are decorated in beautiful ethnic
style.
RUSINGA ISLAND, VICTORIA ****
Rusinga Island located in Lake Victoria has got a camp that caters for
tourists. Flying there just to spend your holiday or to do some bird
watching or deep-sea fishing is amazing.
There are spacious cottages set up and which can accommodate about 16
people. Delicious menus are served alfresco with fresh organic salads,
fruits and vegetables.
Also, for those in the Mara a retreat to the Island to do fishing can be
done flying in by two shifts, one in the morning arriving before breakfast
and another after lunch.
Laikipia Plateau, North Kenya
BORANA LODGE, LAIKIPIA *****

IL-NGWESI LODGE, LAIKIPIA *****
The Il Ngwesi Lodge is situated adjacent to the Ngare Ndare River on the
edge of the Mukogodo Hills and boasts commanding panoramic views across
Northern Kenya.
It is constructed with materials from the local area and comprises six
individual `bandas’ (cottages), which all have adjoining open air showers.
They are thatched, open plan and on high supports to fully ensure both
fantastic views and privacy. Two of the bandas have a platform where you
can roll out the double bed and spend the night under the stars.
There is also a large sitting area and a strikingly designed swimming pool,
which appears to overflow into the wilderness below. There is accommodation
for up to 16 people in the six bandas.
LOISABA LODGE, LAIKIPIA *****
Loisaba bestrides the border of Laikipia and Kenya’s rugged Northern
Frontier District.
Only a few miles away from the equator, this private game ranch of 150
square kilometres is in a country of transcendent beauty where the farm
management and the local Laikipia Maasai and Samburu community work
together to preserve the environment and the wildlife.
All 7 rooms have large French windows that open onto a private deck
cantilevered off the escarpment. The legendary views extends for hundred of

MUKUTAN RETREAT, LAIKIPIA *****
The stunning holistic Mukutan Retreat on the edge of the Great Rift Valley
on Ol Ari Nyiro Ranch in Laikipia is the magical home to Kuki Gallmann,

MUTAMAIYU HOUSE, LAIKIPIA *****
Mutamaiyu House is on Mugie Ranch situated a 49,000acre working ranch at
the northern end of the Laikipia plateau in northern Kenya on the edge of
the Great Rift Valley.
Described by a recent visitor as “Heaven on a Hill” it is a magnificent
family House built in a grove of ancient twisting olive trees.
SABUK LODGE. ****
Sabuk Lodge is a stunning wilderness destination, perched on the high banks
of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the Northern Frontier District, overlooking the
Laikipia Plateau and Samburu land.
The lodge has 5 rondavels (open sided cottages) with veranda, shower and
toilet, each with its own fabulous view.
Sabuk was fashioned out of the local landscape, built with local materials,
the hillside, and flora, twisted wood and stone boulders incorporated into
the architecture.
Open walls and private verandas face out over the river gorge 150 feet
below. This hilly area with dense acacia bush is host to a lot of game.
LEWA SAFARI CAMP. ****
Lewa Tented Safari Camp has just twelve luxury tents that are discreetly
sited close to a busy little water hole that's flood lit at night. The
emphasis here is on activities, from walks, day and night drives, visiting
local sites of interest and horse/camel riding - they are all very well run
and accompanied by brilliant guides. There is also a high emphasis on the
quality of the food, where the chef strives to produce excellent meals
using fresh locally grown ingredients. Camel safaris are also available
from here, lasting anything up to a week!
LEWA DOWNS ***
Lewa Downs is a highly successful and well known home stay at a 45,000 acre
cattle ranch at the foothills of Mt. Kenya near Isiolo. Three quaint rustic
cottages have two guest rooms sharing a common rondavel living room with
fireplace and large verandah. Bathrooms are no frills basic.
Guests join the owners the Craig family for meals. Activities centre on
enjoying the cinerary and wildlife. Horse riding is available and the well
trained horses allow beginners to ride. Night game drives are a specialty
as well as guided walking tours. You may visit the ranch weaving and
spinning project and make orders for rugs.
A lovely combination of beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife and careful
hospitality make this an old fashioned settler experience. Tour groups may
pass through at lunch.

Masai Mara Reserve and Group Ranches
BATELEUR CAMP MASAI MARA *****
The camp is set amongst forests on the edge of the Masai Mara, just below
the spot where scenes from the motion picture 'Out of Africa' was filmed.
The camp recreates the authentic feel of being on safari during the early
twentieth century, when hordes of porters would carry all that was deemed
necessary for sophisticated comfort! Vast tented areas have polished
floors, leather chairs, huge squashy cushions, an open fire and piles of
books… All nine tents are luxuriously well decorated. Activities include
game drives and walks, accompanied by an extremely knowledgeable guide.
COTTARS CAMP *****
Cottars Camp is located in the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
The Camp can accommodate a maximum of twelve guests in spacious,
luxuriously furnished tents, with every detail true to the originals.
Lace coverings adorn the four-poster beds and beautiful antique furniture.
Each tent is complete with ensuite toilet, piping hot water for canvas bath
or shower, and a team of courteous and attentive staff.
GOVERNORS' IL MORAN MASAI MARA *****
Il Moran is perfectly suited to those who want that extra sense of luxury.
With just ten beautifully furnished tents located along the Mara River, the
camp is hidden in the shadow of ancient trees and the surrounding bush.
Everything is done to perfection here, from the lodge's decoration, to the
exquisite cuisine. Game drives and game walks are all accompanied by an
extremely knowledgeable guide who will certainly bring the bush alive with
local facts and folk lore. And yes, the tents do have Victorian baths

MARA EXPLORER CAMP MASAI MARA *****
Mara Explorer is situated on a broad, thickly forested bend of the Talek
River in the middle of the Maasai Mara. From here, it enjoys prime viewing
of the wildebeest migration. During the remainder of the year, herds of
watering elephant, giraffe and other animals can often be seen from guest's
private veranda. This is a 'five-star' camp and offers 10 luxurious tents
with good river views. Each tent reflects a distinctive 'explorer' style,
with old wooden chests, tin trunks and historic prints, complemented by a
fascinating collection of 'Africana' books in the camp's library. With a

GOVERNORS' PRIVATE CAMP MASAI MARA *****

LITTLE GOVERNORS' CAMP MASAI MARA ****
Little Governor's Camp is built around a small but picturesque swamp that
teems with birds and wildlife. The seventeen tents are reached by boat,
across the Mara River and are exquisitely set, offering a serene and
romantic atmosphere. Built for intimacy, entirely from canvas, the tents
look out over the busy waterhole, furnishings are luxurious, bar always
stocked and a French chef continues to amaze guests with delightful
cuisine. Activities are concentrated on drives, though walks are very
popular - all accompanied by experienced and qualified guides.
MARA CAMP ****
Mara Camp is located on Koyiaki Group Ranch adjoining the Masai Mara
National Reserve - west of Nairobi.
Mara Camp is a seasonal tented camp. There are 6 spacious double tents with
ensuite toilet and shower. Each tent has a private veranda.
Here they have re-created the safari camp of "Out of Africa". Where guests
are looked after by attentive staff who bring steaming hot water for your
canvas showers, prepare sumptuous meals and offer your favourite "sundowner"
cocktail. Every comfort is assured, your every need catered for.
DUMA CAMP ****
Duma Camp, in the northwest corner of the world famous Maasai Mara, is a
private luxury camp.
This semi-permanent facility has an air of uniqueness, offering utmost
comfort, excellent cuisine, bush picnics, sundowners in places with
unbelieveable views, as well as walks and hikes escorted by Maasai guides.
The camp consists of five luxury double tents, all with ensuite bathrooms
with flush toilets. Each tent has discreet solar lighting, thus eliminating
candles and matches.
The camp is especially attractive to families. The youngest guest to date
has been five months and the oldest guest 82 years of age.
The tents are large enough to accommodate four beds so that children can
all sleep together if they wish.
BUSHTOPS ****
Bushtops is beautifully situated on a hillside just outside the Masai Mara
Game Reserve.
This cosy former hunting lodge overlooks a natural salt lick which is just
a hundred yards away that attracts a spectacular array of animals.
Bushtops with its sweeping views has retained the ambience reminiscent of
bygone pioneer days. This is reflected in an array of wildlife photographs
and memorabilia stretching back many decades since the Cottar family (the
owners of Bushtops) were among the early settlers to the area.
The camp is set up seasonally (June -October, December - March) and caters
for between four and twelve guests.
The spacious canvas tents are equipped with hot showers and toilets
together with a large dining tent.
ROKERO COTTAGES ****
Rokero Cottages are located in the Masai Mara. The cottages cater for a
maximum of ten guests.
All the cottages overlook a waterhole where animals frequently come to
drink, splash and bathe.
There are four rustic one-bedroom cottages - each with private bath
facilities, plus a larger family cottage with two double bedrooms - each
with private bath.
Meals consist of wholesome farmhouse fare, and friendly and capable staff
takes care of laundry and housekeeping.
ROKERO TENTED CAMP ****
Rokero Tented Camp is set amidst the teeming mass of wildlife in the Masai
Mara area.
Rekero's tented camp is currently inside the Masai Mara Game Reserve, very
close to the confluence of the Mara and Talek rivers.
This mobile camp is ideally situated for the annual migration, which is the
movement of nearly a million wildebeest and other animals from the
Serengeti through the Masai Mara in Kenya.
MARA INTREPIDS TENTED CAMP ****
Set above a sweeping bend in the Talek River at the confluence of the
Maasai Mara's four game main viewing areas, Intrepids enjoys one of the
most spectacular locations in the reserve. With thirty luxury tents widely
spread across a large riverside site, it ensures guests the optimum privacy
and peace. Each tent is furnished in the classic style of the grand African
safaris, with large four-poster beds and handsome furniture. Each tent sits
on a shady platform, with sweeping views over the riverbanks where a wide
variety of animals come to drink. With a host of local activities that
would interest any guest, they concentrate mainly on game drives and walks,
and visits to local Masaai communities.
MARA SERENA LODGE MASAI MARA ****
A good interpretation of a traditional Masai village, Mara Serena is
perched on a hill, with a beautiful pool that looks out over the wide
plains below. The seventy two rooms are Masai influenced in style yet
extremely spacious and comfortable. Meals are delicious, always plentiful
and the staff very friendly. Game drives are the main form of activity
here, with excellent concentrations of wildlife in the local vicinity of
the lodge.
GOVERNORS' CAMP ****
Governors' Camp lies on the banks of the Mara River to the west of the
famous Masai Mara. The camp is in a spot once reserved for the colonial
governors of Kenya and their royal visitors therefore placing particular
emphasis on comfort, service and excellent cuisine. The thirty comfortable
tents are stylishly decorated are carefully positioned for uninterrupted
views from the verandas, either of the Mara River or the surrounding
plains. Activities are mainly concentrated on game drives and walking
safaris, all accompanied by knowledgeable guides.
KEEKOROK GAME LODGE ***
One of the oldest lodges in the Mara, Keekorok was opened in early 60's and
lies at the southern end of the Mara. With eighty five rooms spread out in
the gardens, the lodge doesn't feel as large as it sounds. Rooms are
spacious though are simple. What the lodge lacks in luxury, it makes up for
in excellent game viewing, as it's right in the migration path!
In front of the lodge there is also a 300m elevated walkway that meanders
through a small riverine forest to a bar at one end. This overlooks a dam
where resident hippo and other game is regularly seen.
KICHECHE MARA CAMP ***
Located in the northern Koiyaki Lemek region of the Mara, Kicheche Mara
Camp is hidden in a groove of wild cotton trees in a prime wildlife area.
The camp is a luxury bush camp with no permanent structures and can
accommodate a maximum of 20 guests.
The tents have spacious rooms with adjacent private bathrooms with hot
water. There are director's chairs and hammocks slung nearby trees to relax
in.
KICHWA TEMBO TENTED CAMP ***
Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp nestles below the Oloololo Escarpment on the
western boundary of the Masai Mara overlooking the endless, game filled
plains shaded by dense forest canopy.
Each of the spacious tents affords total privacy and the privilege of
sweeping views of the greatest grassland system on earth.
MARA SAFARI CLUB MASAI MARA ***
Owned are run by the Lonrho Group, the club is set in the Ol-Choro Oiroua
Conservation Area, bordering the Masai Mara. Surrounded on three sides by
the Mara River, all fifty tents have their own private river frontage, with
four-poster beds, veranda, electricity, modern en-suite facilities with hot
and cold running water. Game drives are guided by experienced naturalists
and there are gentle bird walks to enjoy as well. The food here is of a
high standard and staff friendly.
MARA SIMBA LODGE ***
Mara Simba Lodge lies in the banks of Talek River. It is designed with
imagination and built with traditional materials.
It nestles unobtrusively into the landscape, while both the main building
and the rooms overlook the river where crocodiles and hippo can be seen.
The rooms have en-suite facilities with private verandas overlooking the
river.
Evening is marked by entertainment around the fireplace with traditional
songs, dances, slide shows and lectures.
SAROVA MARA TENTED LODGE ***
The tented lodge is located inside the eastern section of the Masai Mara
and hidden in a wonderful little forested valley away form sight of other
Mara visitors. There are seventy five tents that are quite luxurious and
contain everything one would expect from a permanent bush lodge. Wooden
walkways link the tents and manicured lawns with the main dining / bar
areas, and are built over wide lily ponds. Bird life is abundant, with
kingfishers a speciality. The impressive main building consists of a high
thatched lobby, Oloip bar with its cosy log fireplace, a big dining area
and outdoor terrace.
SARUNI CAMP ***
Saruni is the new, deluxe and intimate lodge set in a private conservation
area outside the Masai Mara National Reserve. With accommodation for only
12 in six spectacular cottages, it is set in a remote valley. The
atmosphere at the camp is informal but elegant. Each cottage has elegant
Italian bathroom fittings, polished wooden floors, and large bathrooms
where the canvas front can be totally open to offer you an amazing "shower
with a view".
Kuro House, the common dining area, is a mixture of old-fashioned Africa
and modern design. Its huge fireplace is the focal point of life at Saruni
and it is here that our guests exchange memories of the day's safaris. A
unique feature of Saruni is its collection of books and its library, the
most beautiful in the African bush. With thousands of rare books and its
very private location, Saruni's library is a place where to meditate, to
rest, to think.
Saruni has a low impact on the environment thanks to the use of solar
power and the recycling of waste.
MARA SOPA LODGE ***
Set in the Oloolaimutia valley the lodge blends in perfectly with its
surrounding hillside landscape. The accent here is on the Masai people and
the fabulous wealth of wildlife, birdlife, and natural flora to be found in
the fabled Masai Mara Game Reserve
The lodge has an altitude of 2,104 meters (6,400 feet) above sea level and,
because of the cool breezes through the valley it is sited in, enjoys warm
days and cool evenings.
The lodge has 200 beds by way of 77 rooms, 12 suites and 1 Presidential
suite, all of which are 'rondavel' style and have en-suite bathroom
facilities which provide shaving sockets and hairdryers. Every room and
suite has a private, elevated verandah with splendid views across the
valley and on which guests can relax, sunbathe and watch resident birds and

SIANA SPRINGS INTREPIDS ***
Just outside the eastern boundary of the Mara, Siana Intrepids occupies a
lush indigenous forest watered by the largest natural springs in the Mara
ecosystem - Siana Springs. The camp's location offers guests unique
opportunities for excellent private bush walks and drives on the plains and
along the seasonal streams beneath Ngama Hills. This luxurious camp offers
thirty eight spacious tents surrounded by bamboo groves, flowering
ornamental trees, lily clad ponds and a lush indigenous forest. It's a fun
camp, with Siana's famously fearless bushbucks, vervet monkeys and tree
hyraxes keeping guests entertained during the day.
MARA HIPPO LODGE **
Mara Hippo Lodge is located near the Ololaimutieki gate on the south side
of the Mara triangle.
The lodge offers a choice for families, couples and singles as well.
The restaurant serves a wide range of international cuisine and a mixture
of African delicacies.
All the rooms have been designed to compliment the magnificent surroundings
and have en-suite facilities with verandas in each room providing the
breathtaking landscape.
DAVID LIVINGSTONE SAFARI LODGE **
Situated to the north east of the Mara, within the borders of the Koyaki /
Lemek Wildlife Trust, the lodge sits on the banks of a broad bend in the
Mara River, with sweeping views over waters inhabited by large pods of
hippo. Indigenous forests around the lodge are home to elephant and
buffalo, while the plains are frequented by all the big cats. Accommodation
is in seventy eight intimate cottage style rooms, all with beautiful views
over the river and the forests beyond. The restaurant serves delicious
homemade meals that are highly recommended. Activities are mainly game
drives and gentle walking trips, accompanied by an experienced guide.
FIG TREE CAMP **
Fig Tree Camp is located on the banks of the Talek River in the world
famous Masai Mara game reserve. The Camp is situated on the northern border
of the game reserve and its central location makes all areas of the park
accessible during game drives. The rooms spaciously line up along the Talek
River, overlooking the plains of the game reserve.
Fig Tree Camp has 65 rooms comprising of 38 tents with twin beds and
private balcony overlooking the Talek River and Mara game reserve, 22
cabins with double and single bed and 5 cabins with twin beds. All rooms
are en suite and have their private balcony.
The camp has two bars, a main dinning room, an open-air dinning area and
tree house coffee deck.

Meru
ELSA'S KOPJE MERU NATIONAL PARK ****
Perched on top of Mugwongo Hill is the site of George Adamson's first camp.
From one of the eight luxury cottages, guests enjoy a 270 degree view of
the surrounding park with its scattered kopjes and mysterious baobab trees.
The open plan rooms are individually designed, incorporating the rocks into
the structure. Traditional African furniture, bright fabrics and
whitewashed walls are all simple yet superbly comfortable and stylishly
effective. Game drives and walks are focused entirely on guests
requirements, which gives one much flexibility when visiting this
spectacular area.
LEOPARD ROCK LODGE, MERU ****
Leopard Rock Lodge is an upmarket Safari Lodge built on a 3.5Km river
frontage, in the last remaining park devoted to wilderness Meru National
Park, along the Equator 310km from Nairobi, North East of Mt Kenya. It is
an ecological lodge which respects the environment with the intention to
maintain the authenticity of this wild area.
George and Joy Adamson set their camp at the Leopard Rock Lodge which Joy
described as an ideal Leopard country when they got the famous baby
lioness.
Meru National Park has a wide variety of landscapes and habitat around the
Equator. Forest, swamp and savannah are pierced by 15 perennial rivers,
rising from the volcanic Nyambene Hills reaching Tana river in the Southern
boundary. The park is a low altitude area ranging 110m to 1100m above sea
level. Meru National park has a lot of wildlife, elephants, black and white
rhinos, reticulated giraffes, buffalos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, common
and Grevy's Zebra's, waterbucks, Grant Gazelles, Lesser Kudu, bush buck,
elands, warthogs, baboons, monkeys, several dikdiks, orix, gerenuks,
hartebeests, Somali ostriches, hippo, crocodiles, snakes as well as 300
other species of colourful birds.

Mount Kenya
SWEETWATERS TENTED CAMP *****
This beautiful tented camp lies in the heart of a private game reserve,
with magnificent views across the plains to the snow capped peaks of Mount
Kenya. The thirty tents are luxuriously appointed and located in typical
grassland savannah, dotted with acacia trees. The service here is
personalised, with excellent attention to detail. There are also many
activities to enjoy, including day and night game drives, nature walks,
horse riding and visits to Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
MOUNT KENYA SAFARI CLUB *****
Luxury on a country club scale and retaining a strong sense of history,
Mount Kenya Safari Club still connects with Hollywood and the royalty. The
main club building is dotted with memorabilia - huge trophy heads from the
days when hunting was permitted and photographs of famous actors, actresses
and various celebrities, from past to the present day. Cottages retain an
ambience recalling the 1950's - with huge French windows, white terrace
furniture and large comfortable sofas in the central sitting rooms. Suites
are more modern and very private, with vaulted ceilings and river-front
sites. The roaring fires, fuelled by huge logs are lit every evening and
add considerably to the feeling of soothing relaxation. The huge grounds at
the Club are wonderfully kept and have stunning views.
OL PAJETA RANCH HOUSE, NANYUKI ****
Ol Pajeta Ranch House is set against the spectacular scenery of Mt. Kenya.
The House offers exclusivity for a maximum of twelve guests. It is
furnished with original and unusual paints and artefacts.
All the six elegantly appointed suites overlook the extensive tropical
gardens, which include two swimming pools.
RUTUNDU LOG CABINS. ***
Rutundu are log cabins situated on the northern slopes of Mt. Kenya at
10,200ft just above the forest line.
In total privacy, these cabins overlook Lake Rutundu and are surrounded by
Alpine vegetation.
It is also an ideal spot for fishermen and hikers. Both Lake Rutundu and
Lake Alice are stocked with rainbow trout and is only a two-hour walk to
the mountains from the logs.
SERENA MOUNTAIN LODGE. ***
Located at 7200 FT (2195M) on the slopes of the snow-capped mount Kenya,
Serena Mountain Lodge is the most luxurious tree lodge in Kenya with
private ensuite bathroom facilities.
At dusk the dense tropical rain forest comes alive with myriad sounds of
creatures of various descriptions.
The elephant, Rhino, several species of antelopes including the bongo and
occasionally, both leopard and the lion are frequent visitors at the
illuminated water hole which is connected to the lodge by a short tunnel to
a specially constructed bunker affording a close up view of the game.
For the ornithologists, over 200 species of birds have been identified
while the indigenous tropical rain forest vegetation is of special interest
to the botanists.
The most rewarding experience is a clear early morning or afternoon view of
the rocky peaks on Mount Kenya with its over half dozen glaciers.
NARO MORU RIVER LODGE, **
This rustic "mountain" style Naro Moro River Lodge is set among trees along
the banks of a rushing stream.
The lodge serves as the popular base for climbing Mount Kenya and offers a
wide variety of accommodations. Rooms meander among terraced rock gardens
that follow natural contours above the river
.
There is a sense of sporty-ness and outdoor activity at Naro Moru. Many
visitors come to climb the mountain; others come for bird watching or trout
fishing. A peaceful forest path winds along the riverbank.

Samburu
LARSENS CAMP SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE ***
Set in lush lawns on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, Larsen's has a
tranquil atmosphere with elephants, impala and baboons generally always in
the local vicinity. There are seventeen spacious en suite tents here that
are all raised on wooden platforms with views over the river. The camp
retains much of the memorabilia from Eric Larsen's days, with the added
bonuses of being able to offer more game drives, champagne breakfasts on
the banks of the river, sunset cocktails in the wild, bird walks and the
occasional black tie dinner in the dining tent.
SAMBURU INTREPIDS CAMP ***
Perched on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in the heart of the Samburu,
Intrepids location guarantees close encounters with the region's shier
wildlife, including elephant, lion and leopard. This luxurious lodge offers
twenty seven modern tents that are spacious and have private views over the
river - often frequented by much game. Activities are focused on game
drives, walking safaris outside the reserve and camel safaris. There are
also seasonal rafting trips on the Uaso Nyiro River. It's a great lodge,
that's flexible, romantic and has close ties to the local Samburu
communities.
SAMBURU LODGE ***
Located in a rugged landscape with a backdrop of jagged mountains and the
beautiful Uaso Nyiro River on the doorstep, the sixty two rooms are spread
along the river. The dining room is open on the river side, with long
tables and large buffet meals. The bar's a popular spot and pool is
certainly inviting during the heat of the day.
SAMBURU SERENA SAFARI LODGE ***
Situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in the centre of the Samburu,
Serena has sixty two rooms that are very comfortable, thatched and contains
all the modern conveniences one would expect from a luxury lodge.
Activities include game drives, gentle birding walks and animal watching
from the large observation terrace. With a swimming pool, tribal
interactions, camel rides and excellent game around the river, this is a
highly recommended lodge.
SAROVA SHABA LODGE SHABA GAME RESERVE ***
Located on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, Sarova Shaba offers a unique
luxury seldom found in a large African bush lodge. There are eighty chalet
rooms that are certainly stylish and very comfortable. The lodge's grounds
are well manicured and several springs attract a constant supply of birds.
There is always evening entertainment, delicious meals and excellent staff
to look after guests.
Shompole Conservancy
SHOMPOLE LODGE, MAGADI *****
Shompole Lodge is located in the arid no man’s-land between Kenya and
Tanzania.
This newly built eco-lodge straddles a panoramic view of the savannah and
swampland.
The rooms have a double bed and en suite bathroom and toilet. There is also
a plunge pool to cool under the hot-arid climate.
Variety of animals can be seen, some while trekking to the neighboring
ranches. Activities will include a resource center for tracing cultural
history, fossils tours, camel safaris, canoeing, forest walks and bush
dinners.

Shimba Hills / Mwalunganje
SHIMBA HILLS LODGE ***
Set discreetly in the heart of an ancient tropical rain forest, Shimba is
constructed from indigenous timber that blends perfectly into the
surrounding forest vegetation. It is the only tree hotel on the Kenyan
coast, and shares this scenic home with herds of sable antelope, elephant,
buffalo, civet and genet cat - all popular at the floodlit waterhole. All
thirty rooms (not en suite) are quite small but well designed with big
windows and vantage points that overlook the waterhole. The meals here are
of a reasonable standard and service friendly.
TRAVELLERS MWALUGANJE ELEPHANT CAMP ***
Travellers Mwaluganje Elephant Camp is located in the Mwaluganje Elephant
Sanctuary, in the Mwaluganje Hills a 45 minutes drive from Mombasa.
The camp is set along the shoulder of a low hill facing a traditional
elephant trail, allowing guests to watch the elephants from the comfort of
their well-appointed luxury tents.
The camp consists of a 20 twin-bedded tents that have each a private timber
veranda, cold and hot shower, WC and washbasin and they are comfortably
furnished.
Taita Hills
SALT LICK LODGE TAITA HILLS WILDLIFE SANCTUARY ****
Salt Lick Lodge is located in the heart of Hilton International's own
private Wildlife Sanctuary which lies adjacent to Tsavo National Park. The
reserve plays an increasingly important role in the protection and
conservation of Kenya's wildlife heritage. All ninety six rooms are built
in two storey blocks from a central pod and linked together by elevated
platforms - overlooking a salt slick and small waterhole. Rooms are
spacious and have all the necessary modern conveniences. The restaurant,
bar and main balconies have views over the water hole and salt lick, which
is constantly in use by local park residents. There is also an underground
hide for closer encounters. The property looks a little obtrusive from a
distance - somewhat galactic, though certainly worth a stay for a night or
two.
TAITA HILLS LODGE TAITA HILLS WILDLIFE SANCTUARY ***
Taita is located in the heart of Hilton International's own private
Wildlife Sanctuary which lies adjacent to Tsavo National Park, therefore
plays an increasingly important role in the protection and conservation of
Kenya's wildlife heritage. The property has a handful of accommodation
units, many with nice park facing rooms and some with views over the
gardens. The accommodation is spacious though quite basic and consists of
sixty two rooms. The food is plentiful and service friendly. Activities
include game drives, tennis courts, 9 hole golf course, camel riding or
just relaxing around the swimming pool.
LION ROCK CAMP ***

Tsavo
SATAO ROCK CAMP ***
Satao Rock Camp is located in the 98,000 square acre Taita ranch on the
border of Tsavo East National Park. Built on the top of a rock kopje the 8
comfortable en-suite twin tents are perched amongst the picturesque rock
boulders 80 feet above the surrounding plain with a waterhole in clear
view. Frequent visitors are elephant, Cheetah, Impala, and Warthog with
occasional visits by Buffalo, Lion and Leopard. Children below 12 years are
not allowed.
WESTERMANN'S SAFARI CAMP **
Westermann's Safari Camp is situated at the foot of a rocky Kopje.
It had started in the early seventies as a tented base for hunting safaris
in the vast bush on the edge of the Tsavo East National Park.
But today this camp has been rebuilt, and accommodation is now on sixteen
cozy wooden huts and four luxury bungalows all with en-suite facilities and
a swimming pool. Activities include bush walks and bird watching.

GALDESSA CAMP, TSAVO EAST ****

From day game drives in our open Toyota Land Cruisers to walking safaris
along the Galana river and wild luxurious meals in the bush, Galdessa is
your Nature specialist.
The camp has only eight bandas (sort of semi-tented thatched bungalows)
spread over 9.5 acres for maximum privacy, two of which are suites with
their own adjoining sitting room where room service is made available. The
Honeymoon Suite has its own sitting room, viewing platform and water
wallow.
Galdessa is an eco-tourism camp. Solar power is used, waste is recycled,
and there is a water treatment plant. Wildlife regularly uses the camp
grounds.
KILALINDA LODGE, TSAVO EAST ****
Kilalinda is on the edge of Tsavo East in the shadow of the Yatta Plateau
and easily accessible by road from Mombasa.
The accommodation is designed to luxurious levels of comfort with utter
privacy should you desire it. No expense has been spared from the spacious
living areas to the four poster beds that are as wide as they are long and
are swathed in mosquito netting. The hand-dyed stylish bedspreads and
wrought iron fittings lend a splash of Victorian grandeur to the rustic
feel and outside baths enable you to bathe under the stars.
Each room features its own shady private patio looking over a stretch of
riverside 'beach' with its own little garden containing slate tables and
safari chairs. The only interruption on your private beach is from the
procession of birds that descent to your regularly replenished bird tables.
There is a very special suite with its own private plunge pool for
honeymooners, romantic couples and those wanting to really indulge
themselves.
SATAO CAMP ***
In Satao Camp, you experience the real Africa adventure feeling. Nestled
amongst trees overlooking a water hole lies the Satao Camp, an oasis in the
vast scrubland of Tsavo East National Park.
The spacious tents form a semi-circle facing the water hole, all equipped
with electricity from the camp generator. Each tent has a private bathroom
with running water. The showers however are in the "old fashioned style"
whereby the camp staff brings hot water in the evening, filling the shower
bags.
Dine in the open plain restaurant and after dinner relax around the
campfire, just like in the good old days. Experience nature in a different
way and go for an escorted game- and bird walk.
VOI SAFARI LODGE TSAVO EAST ***
Strategically located in Tsavo East National Park, Voi Safari Lodge stands
high above the town of Voi, and overlooks a vast expanse of African bush.
With large herds of elephant, buffalo and a wide diversity of animal, bird
and plant life, Tsavo is an ideal stop over en route to or from Mombasa.
There are fifty rooms here that are comfortable and accommodating. Staff
are also friendly. From the lodge, you can look out onto the two water
holes below and for the camera enthusiasts, close-ups and excellent
pictures can be taken from the hide, as animals come to drink.
VOI WILDLIFE LODGE ***
Voi Wildlife Lodge is a new lodge that has been built in the vast Tsavo
East National Park.
This lodge is located in a shallow basin commanding views of the Kasigau
and Sagalla hills, as well as the Mwakingali rocky outcrops.
NGUTUNI LODGE ***
Ngutuni Lodge is the latest lodge to be built near Tsavo East National
Park.
A Safari Lodge in a 10,000acre private Game Reserve bordering Tsavo East
National Park on three sides.
The lodge is built with traditional thatched roof style with a large
central lounge and dining room.
It has 42 rooms in four-storey bedroom block of 12 rooms each that are
elevated above the ground providing panoramic views of the endless
savannah.
NDOLOLO CAMP **
Ndololo Camp is located in Tsavo East National Park near the Voi gate.
There are permanent structures and no fence and this camp offers a camping
adventure and in taste of true African wild.
The tents have en-suite common hangman bath and flush toilet located
outside the tent.
Meals are in African buffet style and evening activities include campfire
story-telling, guided game walks and game drives.
RED ELEPHANT SAFARI LODGE **
“Red Elephant Safari Lodge” is situated at the gate of Tsavo East National
Park in the middle of the bush.
Its construction style makes it become a part of the area. The animals
around the lodge allow the visitors to observe the beautiful wildlife in
very individual ways.
Each of the massive built guest rooms is equipped with shower and toilet as
well as a small outlook terrace.

Tsavo West
FINCH HATTON'S TSAVO WEST ****
At the foot of the Chyulu Hills, within Tsavo National Park, Finch Hatton's
provides a taste of life as it was for the big game hunters in the earlier
part of the century. The luxury tented lodge offers thirty five elegantly
refined accommodation under canvas. Food is taken very seriously here.
Dinner is always a 'production'. Served by waiters wearing the khanzu, the
traditional snowy-white tunic that servants wore in the colonial period but
now worn with pride. The private land around camp allows for gentle walks
and game drives further afield - all accompanied by a knowledgeable guide.
NGULIA SAFARI LODGE TSAVO WEST NATIONAL PARK ***
Ngulia Safari Lodge is located on a spectacular site in Tsavo West National
Park. It's been built at the top of a rocky outcrop and carved into two
flat terraces. It looks a quite large from a distance due to its
construction, but once inside, views 'out' make up for this. There is a
grassy plain and well visited water hole to the left, then in front of the
restaurant, is a 'strategically' located dead tree, where meat is put out
each evening for a resident leopard. To the right, is a sheer cliff
dropping off to the Yatta Plateau below. The pool looks out over this as
well! All fifty bedrooms are quite simple and have balconies and en suite
bathrooms. The main public area has a large simply furnished lounge, bar
and dining area - all looking out over these scenic surroundings.
SERENA KILAGUNI LODGE TSAVO WEST ***
Kilaguni lies in the heart of Tsavo, one of the best game viewing areas in
the park. Only 100 metres away from the main building lie a series of
waterholes that attracts animals from miles around. The lodge has around
sixty rooms that are well designed, spacious and include all the modern
conveniences one would expect from a top lodge here. With Mzima Springs
close by and Mount Kilimanjaro dominating the horizon, this is a highly
recommended place to stay. The food and service are very good too.
SEVERIN SAFARI CAMP ***
Severin Safari Camp is situated near the Mzima Springs in the Tsavo West
National Park with view to the Chyulu Hills and the snow caped Mt.
Kilimanjaro.
It has a layout of 20 double crescent tents shaded by Makuti and bisected
by an open-sided dining room and a bar looking out on two waterholes, and
the adjacent plains.
The tents are spacious and nicely appointed with en-suite facilities, hot
showers and bedside lamps. Dinners and lunches are normally a la carte,
unless very large number of guests has to be catered for.
VOYAGER SAFARI CAMP TSAVO WEST ***
Situated in the shadow of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro on the edge of Tsavo
West National Park, Voyager Safari Camp sits on the edge of a small dam on
the Sante River. This exclusively tranquil camp offers a close encounter
with the resident hippos and crocodiles, as well as the big game of one of
Kenya's most spectacular and least explored parks. All of the twenty five
tents look out over the river, and are spacious, comfortably furnished and
classic in ambience. The restaurant serves excellent homemade table d'hôte
cuisine that's recommended. Activities are mainly day and night game drives
and escorted nature walks.
Western Kenya
MT. ELGON LODGE **
Mt. Elgon is the second highest mountain in Kenya. It is 15 million years
old compared with the youthful Mt. Kilimanjaro (1 million years old).
Millions of years of erosion have worn down the massif, which is thought to
have once towered over all other African mountains.
It is also one of the most impressive, with vast areas of untouched forest
concealing over 400 elephants whose most famous gathering place is in the
bat filled Kitum Cave to which they troop nightly to forage for salt
encrusted on the cave walls.
Only 500 m from the gate on the slopes of Mt. Elgon the Mt. Elgon Lodge is
situated allowing a panoramic view over the land below. The lodge is an old
farm house converted into a simple, charming lodge with 14 ensuite rooms.

Lokitela Farm is on the foothills of Mt Elgon, the largest but not the
highest mountain in Africa.
