BOOKINGS AND RATES
The recent high level of travel to Kenya has continued into 2006, with
heavy bookings in the peak winter months. The position is easier into the
low season months of April, May and June, but these are more booked than in
previous years.
The popular lodges and camps have limited remaining space in the peak
periods, particularly late June, July and August. However Southern Sky does
have allocations of rooms to cover popular safari programmes.
Clients are advised to start planning, and book, as early as possible, and
it is helpful if they have some flexibility of dates, routing and
accommodation used.
There are several new safaris available, many have been modified, and a few
of the old itineraries are discontinued
Following several years with little or no price increases, prices have
increased in 2006, due mainly to higher lodge and camp charges, increased
park fees and the effects of the oil price on transportation costs.
However, many lodges and camps have now renovated and improved their
standards, and there is a good selection of new properties available.
SAFARI VEHICLES
Southern Sky has now purchased some specially converted 4x4 Toyota Land
Cruisers with 7 window seats for clients and raising roof hatches. These
vehicles are used on some “seat in vehicles” itineraries, where specified,
and may be used on custom safaris, at a supplementary cost. The main
Southern Sky safari vehicle is the Nissan converted minibuses with 8
passenger seats and raising roof hatch.
